The 2016 edition of the Cubs Dance Team is comprised of 18 talented young woman that serve as ambassadors of Mount Royal University, Cougars Athletics and the City of Calgary. Involved in many volunteer opportunities around campus and the city, the team strives to build a better, more energetic community in and out of the university!
The Cubs are selected during an intensive audition process where dancers are evaluated on their dance experience, ability, and attitudes!
All members are actively involved in the Mount Royal community through volunteerism, but also engage through studies, work and on campus involvement!
Our Philosophy The focus of The Cubs & Co. is to develop an inclusive team for all students to get more involved in the student life. The team will provide students with a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year, as well as to provide students with a rich on-campus dance experience. As a result, our team will provide opportunities to pursue dance as well as develop a strong sense of community at Mount Royal University. Want to help us get here? Sponsorship opportunities are available!
Long-term Goals Our primary goal is to increase overall school spirit at Mount Royal University, as well as provide the students with an opportunity to engage in student life. Our secondary goal is to provide our athletes with skills and confidence necessary to be successful in the field of dance. Our role is to support our dancers and help them reach their potential – whatever it may be. Our long-term goal is to get involved in dance competitions across Western Canada and to bring our dancing to the next level!
About the Team The Cubs Dance Team is the official dance team of Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta. It was formed in 2014 through the student association. The team started off as a small group of twelve dancers whose common goal was to use dance as a way to promote school spirit, as well as support MRU's athletic teams. The team mainly performs at Men's/Women's Basketball games,as well as occasional Volleyball and Hockey games. The team also actively participates in the university's social and fundraising events. In 2015/16 school year, The Cubs Dance Team has committed to running a community outreach program over the past three years, where the dancers are given the chance to give back to the community by hosting monthly dance classes available to the public in hopes to share their passion for dance. The Cubs Dance Team also provides opportunities for non-dancer students who wish to be more active in the community. The Blue Crew has been created for those who do not have any dance background, but who wish to cheer on the Cougars in the crowds or participate in various community building events. GO COUGARS GO!
