The Cubs Dance Team is comprised of 18 talented young women that serve as ambassadors of Mount Royal University, Cougars Athletics and the City of Calgary community. By being involved in different volunteer opportunities community events around campus and the city of Calgary, the team strives to build a better, energetic, and engaging community in and out of the university.
The Cubs dancers are selected through an intensive audition and interview process, where they are evaluated on their dance experience, ability, performance and attitudes.
All members are actively involved in the Mount Royal community through volunteering, studies, work and on campus involvement!
Our Philosophy The focus of The Cubs Dance Team is to develop a strong team through which members can be more involved in MRU student life and have an enriching on-campus dance experience. As a result, our team will provide opportunities to pursue dance as well as develop a strong sense of community at Mount Royal University. Want to help us get here? Sponsorship opportunities are available!
Team Goals Our primary goal is to increase overall school spirit at Mount Royal University, as well as provide the opportunity to engage in student life. Our secondary goal is to provide our athletes with the skills and confidence necessary to be successful in the field of dance. Our role is to support our dancers and help them reach their potential – whatever it may be. Our long-term goal is to get involved in university-level dance competitions across Western Canada.
About the Team The Cubs Dance Team is the official dance team of Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta. It was formed in 2014 through the student association (SAMRU). The team started off as a small group of twelve dancers whose common goal was to use dance as a way to promote school spirit, as well as support MRU's athletic teams. The Cubs perform at Cougars Sporting Events, primarily Men's/Women's Basketball games, along with other university events and community fundraisers. To increase engagement and interest within the mount royal community, the team hosts free open classes available to all members of the community regardless of experience.
The Cubs Dance Team also provides opportunities for non-dancer students who wish to be more active in the community. The Blue Crew was established along side of the Cubs to create additional engagement in the Mount Royal community for those who do not have a dance background. For those who wish to cheer on the Cougars in the crowds or participate in various community building events, the Blue Crew is always welcoming new members.
